Romania ready to counter terrorist attack: president
The Romanian government is ready to counter terrorist attacks, President Traian Basescu said in a TV address on Monday.
Basescu said strict inspection measures have been taken in the areas from where terrorists may enter the country. In addition, security conditions are monitored according to reports by the intelligence bureau.
He also said Romania faces the threat of terrorism like any other democracies in the world, but his government is able to protect the people.
He added that although the government is capable of controlling the situation, it does not rule out the possibility of accidents.
President Basescu went to the British Embassy in Romania to express his condolences over the deaths in the London bombing on July 12. He said on the occasion that Romania has become the terrorists' target just like other democratic countries and it thus should get ready to fight terrorism.
